Three weeks in which we explore the relevance of the biblical writers' use of 'identity' and 'calling' to the ongoing relationship between God and humanity.
Called by name
This week, Samuel, the tiny child dedicated to God’s service and living in the Temple with Eli, an old priest, wakes in the night when he hears a voice calling his name.
This week’s reading, 1 Samuel 3.1-10 (11-20), provides an opportunity to:
- think about being called by name to take up our mission (AAA & CYP)
- consider how we speak and listen to the voice of the child in the community (AAA)
- reflect on how we handle difficult knowledge (AAA)
- get to know the story of God calling Samuel (CYP).
