A meditative prayer

based on John 6.1–15

If £10 buys 5 sacks of seeds^* , how much does it cost to feed five thousand people?
How much for five loaves and two fish?
And how much for the leftovers, picked off the local rubbish dump the next day?
There's news in every season of someone's harvest failing, of someone's life torn apart by wars we can't seem to fix, by poverty and all the familiar accompaniments: disease, dirty water, no education.
Lives are easily cut short by global forces beyond the control of the poor.
All around the world our waste is someone's livelihood.
It seems to take more than money to change these things.
