Poem: Mary's Epiphany Song

A meditative poem

Cold stable, long journey, uncertainty,
foolishness even, we shared the secret of believing in …
What did we believe in?
A star, a dream, a king, a destiny, ourselves?
We followed a star, the wise men had said, we followed a star.
And so must our Son,
although he is the star and the journey
and the reason for setting out
and the joy of arriving amidst the sorrow of a journey's end.
And so must we.
Even now, as I cradle his tiny head and Joseph looks on dreamily,
even now, as I wish the darkness would envelop us in the safety of obscurity.
