A film to help us identify situations which make us angry

Among the many resources available, the BBC learning zone offers a short film about ways to deal with anger.

Watch it together. Invite people of all ages to reflect on what they learned about themselves from the film: what spoke to them from the film?

Then ask everyone to identify two situations in which they are most likely to find themselves getting angry. Encourage them to hold out their hands, palms up, and in their imagination place one of the situations on each hand.

Now invite people to think of the things that spoke to them from the film and to place those ideas on top of each of the difficult situations sitting, in an imaginary way, on their hands. Then invite people to close their hands, wrapping the situation and the possible response together and use this prayer:

From anger that destroys and bitterness that divides:
Good Lord, save us and heal us.

From twisted word and lashing out against others:
Good Lord, save us and heal us.

From misusing our power, crushing when we should lift up,
and seeking rights instead of relationship.
Good Lord, save us and heal us. Amen.
