Catching a glimpse

Use the internet to find several close-up pictures of everyday objects. Display these on screens or print them out and invite people to guess what the objects are from just the smallest glimpse. Discuss the way that sometimes just a glimpse of the glory of God is enough to help us appreciate something much greater. W S

Secrets that might change the world

Jesus ordered his three companions ‘to tell no one what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had been raised from the dead’. An underlying theme in Mark’s Gospel is ‘secrecy’. Even when he did not demand secrecy, what Jesus did was often so puzzling that it was not until after the resurrection that people began to understand his significance. Give out little squares of paper (7.5cm x 7.5cm – the size of a square sticky note). Invite everyone to think of something good that they know about but most people don’t, something that could make the world a better place. Ask them to write it anonymously in the middle of their little square. Ask people to fold the little squares in half and in half again, enclosing the good secret. These will be shared out at the end of the service. W A

Lost for words

Invite the congregation to share what non-verbal means of communication they or others have used after an overpowering experience. Has anyone drawn a picture, or tried later to write a poem or song to express what they have experienced? Or has it affected the way they act and behave towards others? W E
