Matthew: Come on Thomas, Peter wouldn’t joke about something like that. Anyway we all saw Jesus, didn’t we?
Disciples: Yes, Jesus came to see us.
Peter: It was amazing! We were all upstairs, minding our own business…
Matthew: Yes, and don’t forget that all the doors and windows were locked, Peter.
Peter: I was just coming to that! Please try not to interrupt me! Now where was I? Oh yes, the windows and doors in the room were locked and Jesus just came and stood in the middle of us. He looked so different, all the pain had gone (pause). And he said to us, ‘Peace be with you.’
Matthew: Yes, he wasn’t angry with us, or anyone else. He seemed to be reassuring us.
Thomas: Well, that’s all very well, but I wasn’t there to see it for myself! How do I know what you’re saying is true? How do I know it was really Jesus? Can you prove it to me?
Peter: Can’t you just take our word for it?
Thomas: No! Why is it always me that misses out and has to take other peoples’ word for what happened? It’s not fair.
Disciples: Don’t you believe us?
Thomas: It’s not that I don’t believe you; I just that I want to see for myself. I need to see Jesus’ hands and feel the holes the nails made and the wound in his side. Then I will believe.
Jesus appears
Jesus: Peace be with you. Well, Thomas, you said you needed to see me, so here I am. Here are my hands and the nail holes. Put your fingers in. And here is the wound in my side.
Thomas: (Thomas touches Jesus’ hands and side and then falls on his knees) My Lord and my God!
