Mark says that Jesus healed Simon’s mother-in-law on the sabbath. What do you think that says about God and the sabbath? And didn’t Jesus break the rules by doing this – why would he do it? Once again, how might that make you think about what we should and shouldn’t do on a day of rest?
We do not know if anyone witnessed the healing of Simon’s mother-in-law – we don’t even know her name. But we are told that when she was healed, when she was raised up, she immediately began to do things for Jesus and the disciples. She began to serve. Paul, in several of his letters, talks about us being raised up too. Raised with Christ to new life – and called to serve. What sort of things do you think we might be called to do? What things could we do this week?
