Put pieces of coloured paper or material on the floor, well apart from each other, and assign each colour a feeling – e.g. red for angry, blue for sad, yellow for happy, purple for afraid. Read out some statements and invite people to come and stand on the colour that matches how they feel. Use statements that will generate a variety of responses, for example: ‘You are holding a baby’, ‘You are holding a spider’.
Draw attention to how different people can feel differently about the same situations. How do our feelings impact on others? And ourselves? Who can we ask to help us cope with difficult feelings? Ask for some volunteers to bring all the colours together to make a (sort of) rainbow.
