Present the reading & Talk together

2 Corinthians 4.5-12 - Two ways to tell the story, followed by ideas for discussion time

Before you start have a look at our guide: Using the weekly resources on Paul’s letters with children

Download this week's Paul's world sheet.

Choose from these two ways of telling the story:

Letter from Paul

Beforehand, write out the words of 2 Corinthians 4.7 on a scroll of paper and tie it up with a ribbon. Make sure it’s visible when the children come in. Explain that it’s a letter from St Paul to his Christian friends in Corinth. Unroll the scroll and read it out.

Sign it

Beforehand, teach the children some simple signs for key words/phrases: treasure – cup hand as if holding something precious; jars – make shape in air; power – flex your muscles: God – point upwards; does not come from us – shake head and point to self. Encourage the children to sign the words as you read the verse. For reinforcement, you could repeat it three times: words only; words and signs; signs only.

Talk together  ( Connect faith with everyday life)

  • Why do you think that Paul describes us as clay jars?
  • What does it feel like to have the treasure of knowing Jesus inside you?
  • Who do you think is extraordinary?
